The Big Questions Part 5 “Why Are You So Afraid?” Traditional Service Livestream
Everyone is afraid of something. There are over 500 categories of phobias; a deep, almost irrational fear of something. Fear of heights, closed in spaces, strangers, or public speaking, We’re all afraid of something.
Some fears are common. Some are strange.
Anatidaephobia: fear of ducks
Neophobia: fear of anything new
Novercaphobia: fear of your stepmother
Optophobia: fear of opening one’s eyes.
Or my two favorite fears:
Homilophobia: fear of sermons (insert your own joke here)
Phobophobia: fear of being afraid.
The disciples are out on a boat with Jesus on the Sea of Galilee. Suddenly a massive storm arises threatening to sink the boat. Understandably, the disciples are terrified. Jesus calms the storm and then asks the question, “Why are you so afraid?”
We’re all afraid of something. Jesus knows that because He knows us.
It’s a scary world out there and we need to hear what He has to say.
