Ask a four-year-old what they want, and they won’t hesitate to tell you.

Ask a 20-year-old what they want, and they may not have a clear, definitive answer.

Ask a 50-year-old and they will tell you things have changed, life is different, it’s not what they used to think they wanted.

Ask a 70-year-old and they will tell you they already have everything they need.

 

Jesus asks the question, “What do you want?

 

Sounds like a simple question. But honestly, Jesus is aware that sometimes we don’t really know what we want.

 

Most of our prayers usually begin with us telling God what we want.

To which Jesus would say, “I’d rather help you find what you need”.

 

What we want.

What we need.

 

Those two things couldn’t be more different. Funny how many of us haven’t figured that out yet.
