The Big Questions Part 2 "Why do People Need The Church?" Traditional Service Livestream

Why do people need the church? If the answer is obvious to you there’s a good chance you’ve been on the inside of a church for a long time. But think about someone who doesn’t go to church or rarely attends. If they asked you why you think being a part of a congregation is important, how would you answer? What would you say?

Whether we like it or not, there is a growing feeling among some people that the church is outdated, out of touch and out of sync with the present culture.

The reasons are as varied as the people themselves.

Reasons why people don’t go to church:

  1. It’s boring
  2. There are other things I’d rather be doing
  3. Too many hypocrites in the church.
  4. The church hurt me – by something someone said or did. Or they weren’t there for me when I needed them.
  5. All the church cares about is money
  6. My relationship with God is private and personal.
  7. I can worship just as well in the mountains, on a golf course, at my house.
  8. Too busy
  9. Too tired
  10. The weather is too bad to go out in
  11. Don’t like the speaker
  12. Don’t see the point of going
  13. I have to work
  14. I can listen to a sermon online
  15. I can study the Bible by myself (or with the use of online aids)
  16. Church is boring
  17. I’ve been hurt too many times by members of the church
  18. I don’t agree with or support the leadership
  19. I’m not comfortable there
  20. I don’t feel my needs are being met.

Trust me I’ve heard them all.

Before you dismiss them, maybe we all need to listen to them.

The right questions lead to the right answers.

The wrong questions lead to the wrong answers.

The question is:

“Why do people need the church?”

Maybe the better question is:

“What kind of church do people need?”
