FOMO PART 2 “The Fear of Loneliness” (THRIVE Service)

FOMO PART 2 "The Fear of Loneliness" (THRIVE Service)

Loneliness. The feeling of being isolated, abandoned, forgotten. A painful sense that you don’t belong.

Loneliness is an epidemic in our culture. The physical, mental, and spiritual damage it does to individuals is incalculable.

It wasn’t meant to be that way.

When God created the world in Genesis 1, everyday ends with the same phrase, “It is good.”

It continues to build and by Day 6 God saw all that he had made and said, “It is very good.”

Then something happens.

It’s the first time God senses that something is not quite right, something is not good.

He looks at Adam, and he is alone. God knows it’s not good.

And God says, “It is not good for man to be alone.”

Frankly, we don’t do well on our own. Loneliness and isolation account for so much of the pain we experience and the hopelessness we feel at times. But we are a stubborn species. Of course, it’s right there in the opening pages of the Bible. It’s in Genesis, Isaiah, Luke, and every other book in the Bible. We keep searching for an elusive answer and lo and behold it was there all along lying in plain sight. We just couldn’t see it.

What is it? What’s the antidote to loneliness? What was God’s solution to the problem?

Drum roll please… Here it is:

To be fully alive. To be fully human. To open our hearts and awaken our spirits. To live with a deep sense of passion and purpose.

Two things are necessary:

1We need each other.

2We need God.

Of course, you already knew that. We all do. It’s obvious.

If it’s so obvious, then explain to me again why there is so much loneliness in this world?
