Someone once said, “Golf is a game you can never get too good at. You can improve, but you can never get to where you master the game.”

For anyone who’s ever played the game, it is a maddening, mystifying, and occasionally marvelous experience fraught with moments of epic mistakes and complete failure. But to the casual player there is a well-known respite to the utter injustice of the game. It’s called a mulligan; a do over, a second chance. Drive your tee shot into the water? No problem. Take a mulligan and you have a second chance to get it right.

Only if real life were that way? Wouldn’t it be nice to erase a mistake and start over? What if we could take our worst moment and then be given a second chance to get it right? Of course, we call that grace, and both golfers and non-golfers need it. God is in the business of second chances, which is literally Good News for all of us.
