First Things First PART 2 “Real Life” (THRIVE Service)

“If they really knew me, they wouldn’t like me.”
“I’m not the person other people think I am.”
“It’s only a matter of time before others realize I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“I don’t know how long I can keep this façade going”?
“I feel like a fraud.”
“I spend a lot of time pretending to be someone I’m not.”

Have you ever felt like you’re disconnected? Like there’s a wide gap between the way you portray yourself and the way you really are. It’s known as impostor syndrome. An estimated 70% of people experience impostor feelings at some point in their lives.

Paul is writing to Timothy but also to a wider audience that includes us. He urges us to get real, to be genuine, humble, and open. To ignore the voices telling us who we are supposed to be and listen to the One who created us and knows who we really are. To follow Jesus. To be Christlike so that we are the same person inside and out.

I love the phrase he uses, “Take hold of the life that really is life.” Which means a lot of us are so busy making a life that we forget what life is really about.

No more pretending.

Real Life.
Real God.
Real Good.
