“There is a time for everything…”

It’s a couple’s worst nightmare. The husband and wife were enjoying a wonderful Caribbean cruise which included ports of calls on various islands. The couple left the ship to spend a relaxing day of shopping and visiting local sites of interest.

When they left the ship, they were explicitly told to be back at a certain time because the ship would be departing for the next destination. Unfortunately, they lost track of time. When they realized their mistake, they ran as fast as they could to the dock only to find the ship pulling away. The rule was clear. The ship would leave on time, and it was up to the passengers to be back on board in time for the departure.

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity. Life is a series of critical decisions.

The decisions we make are important. Maybe even more important is the timing of those decisions.

Sometimes the ship we were praying for comes in.

Sometimes the ship we were expecting sails away.

The truth is, we don’t always know when.

The key is to be ready whenever it happens.

Timing is everything. We’ve all struggled with it. So, we look to God and turn to the Bible for answers.

There’s an odd, strange book in the Old Testament called Ecclesiastes. It’s unlike any other book in the Bible.

But if you look closely enough and are willing to dig deep enough there are hidden treasures.

It doesn’t pull any punches. It doesn’t sugarcoat the truth. It doesn’t tell you what you want to hear. It tells you the truth, the hard truth that we often have to learn the hard way.

Isn’t that what we all want? Someone to just tell us the truth.
