THEOLOGY OF BASEBALL PART 2 “Bring ‘Em Home” (THRIVE)

Ever notice that home plate in baseball is in the shape of an actual house? At least the shape every child makes when they’re drawing a picture of their home.
The goal of baseball is to score as many runs as possible by having as many players as possible cross home plate. Often it takes unselfish players who are willing to sacrifice their own egos and ambitions to help someone else move forward.
Jesus spent his life helping people find their way to God. He poured himself into those who were lost, healed those who were hurting, fed those who were hungry and loved those who felt abandoned and alone. In the end, it cost him his life. He sacrificed himself, poured himself out for others so much that by the time it was over, there were no words left unsaid, no deeds left undone.
And when they buried him, they remembered the promise that he made. He said he wouldn’t leave us behind, that he was coming for us to be where he is, to be with him. To bring us home.
Baseball is about coming home.
Home is wherever God is, whether in heaven or here on earth. The moment when we know God is with us and we are with God, we are home.
All that he asks is that we bring as many people as we can with us.
