One of These is Not Like the Other PART 1 “The Lie We Tell Ourselves” (THRIVE Service)

There is an old reoccurring Sesame Street educational theme that shows several objects that are the same but also includes one that is not. As the song says, “One of These is Not Like the Other.”

Jesus is different. If you follow him long enough; if you try to talk like him, act like him, love like him, eventually you will become more like him. In short, you’ll be different.

Jesus believes in us more than we believe in ourselves. In his eyes, we are more capable, more gifted, more powerful than we think. We can do so much more than we think we can. We have the power to change those around us and that power comes from God who is in us and with us. And yet, deep down part of us doesn’t believe we can really make a difference. We’re not convinced. Move a mountain? Impossible. But as he says, with God all things are possible.
