On the Other Side Part 2 “On the Other Side…Of the Wall” THRIVE Service Livestream

There’s an old song that describes what to do when faced with a giant obstacle. Once you start reading the lyrics, many of you will immediately start singing the song. You can’t help yourself.
So high, you can’t get over it
So wide, you can’t get around it
So low, you can’t get under it
You must go through that door
The former Hebrew slaves are running for their lives.
Behind them is Egypt and slavery. In front of them is the hope of a new life and the promise of freedom.
But there is a giant obstacle in the way that prevents them from moving forward. They are trapped. They are terrified. The Egyptian army is closing in behind them. The Red Sea is in front of them. There is nowhere to turn, nowhere to go.
If you think it’s just a history lesson about the challenges the Hebrew slaves faced when leaving Egypt, you’re missing the point. It’s a story for all of us who will, at some point, face an insurmountable challenge or find ourselves trapped with no place to go, nowhere to turn.
A lot of us, when faced with a huge challenge, look for the easiest way out. Get over it, go around it, dig a tunnel underneath it. Or to put it another way, deny it, ignore it, hope it goes away, become paralyzed by it or give up on it altogether.
Any good counselor will tell you, the key to dealing with a major problem is not to run away from it, but to run straight through the middle of it.
Which is what the Hebrew slaves do. With nowhere to go and nowhere to turn, God makes a way for them by parting the waters of the Red Sea. Suddenly a pathway forward appears where there wasn’t one. Seeing the opening, the Hebrew slaves go directly through it to get to the other side.
So high, you can’t get over it
So wide, you can’t get around it
So low, you can’t get under it
You must go through that door.
As someone might say, “That’ll preach.”
It does.
And it will.
