On the Other Side Part 1 “On the Other Side…Of What We Don’t Know” THRIVE Service Livestream

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples,
“Let us cross over to the other side.” Mark 4:35
What’s on the other side? That’s the question.
For people who had never ventured outside their own small country, the thought of going “over there” was probably terrifying. To leave everything familiar behind and head off into an unknown and strange world is a daunting task. But Jesus is determined to go to “the other side” and they reluctantly climb in the boat to go with him.
The other side represents the unknown, the uncertain, the unpredictable. Just as they set out for the other side, they encounter a storm. The message is clear. Change is hard. Leaving the old behind is dangerous. Learning a new way is risky.
Whether we like it or not. Whether we choose it or not, we’re all moving toward the other side.
The other side…
of the wedding ceremony.
of the problems you have, the dilemma you face.
when the kids are gone.
The other side …
of a new job, a new address, a new beginning.
of a divorce or a diagnosis.
of a loss that hurts and a betrayal that stings.
of retirement
and in your final moments on earth – the other side of death.
Notice he says, “Let us cross over to the other side.”
He didn’t say, “I’m going to cross over by myself.”
He didn’t say, “You’re going to cross over on your own.”
He said, “Let us cross over together.”
