FOMO PART 1 “The Fear of Evil” (THRIVE Service)

If you have no idea what these scrambled letters mean, relax, you’re not alone.
- BRB
- JOMO
- NVM
- ELI5
- YOLO
To the uninitiated, they are abbreviations in lieu of words often used in text conversations. If you’re still not sure what they mean, find someone under the age of 25 and they’ll explain.
FOMO is “The Fear of Missing Out” and the title for our new series in January.
FOMO is real. The fear of missing out, being left behind, or being left out.
- You find out that your best friends are planning a trip and you’re not invited.
- A big sale ends in 24 hours and you’re feeling pressure to buy.
- Seeing other people who seemingly have more, do more, and enjoy life more than you.
God knows our deepest fears. God also knows our need to name them, face them, and ultimately overcome them. God also knows we cannot do this on our own.
Evil is real. There are things that happen in this word that scare us. People, who by their actions terrify us. The fear that evil produces in us can be paralyzing.
Which might explain why Psalm 23 is what we turn to when we are afraid.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil
What does that mean for us?
Come join us this Sunday to find out.
Trust me, you don’t want to miss it.
