Divine Intersections Part 3 “Better Make Room” THRIVE Service

Sometimes changes happen and we just find ways to adapt and accommodate.
•A newborn child is welcomed into the family. A bedroom becomes a nursery, a den is converted into a playroom, a kitchen table suddenly becomes a place to fold laundry.
•An aging parent moves into the house. Furniture is rearranged to make a clear path for a walker or wheelchair. Safety bars installed in the shower, and closets cleaned out to make room for the new guest.
• A young adult moves back into the house because money is tight, and housing is expensive. The parents, who thought they had the whole house to themselves after the kids left, now are forced to rearrange the house, and disrupt their normal routines because there’s an additional family member in the house.
• A couple retires and decides to downsize. 40 years of living in the same house then suddenly realizing in the new smaller space, there’s not enough room for all of it. So, they begin to arduous task of getting rid of a whole list of things they couldn’t bring with them.
The arrival of Jesus is disruptive. The people in his life have to make adjustments and change plans. They are forced to make room for the One who is coming.
Jesus enters a world ill-prepared for his arrival. For every person central to the nativity story, the timing could not have been worse. King Herod tries to kill him, Joseph is embarrassed by him, his family tries to hide him, the innkeeper has no room for him, and Mary’s life is forever changed by the unexpected life now growing inside of her. There is nothing to be said. All Mary can do in response to what God has done, is to sing a song.
God’s creation is moving again, bringing forth new life, new hope, a new heaven and earth and it doesn’t matter if the world is ready or not.
We better make room. And by room, I mean the room in our hearts.
Because that’s where he’s heading. That’s where he will reside.
He’s coming.
We better make room.
