4,160 weeks.

The average human lifespan is about 80 years.

That’s 4,160 weeks.

Weeks, not years. Yes, it’s a sobering thought.

Which means, if you are 30 years old, you’ve already lived 1,560 weeks, leaving you with a mere 2,600 left.

There is a Life Calendar available for purchase on Amazon. You can plug in your age, and it will send you a personalized chart prefilled with the number of weeks you’ve already lived blocked out. The unmarked boxes represent the number of weeks you have left. Before you get too depressed, the company assures anyone who makes it past the age of 80 gets a full refund.

Jesus tells a story of two local tragedies in which lives were unexpectedly cut short. Then he describes a barren fig tree that is on its last leg and is given one year more to either bear fruit or be destroyed.

If we just had more time… At some point in our lives, we begin to realize that time is the most precious commodity we have. It also dawns on us that we don’t have enough of it. We wish we could have more time. More time to live. More time to love. More time to get things right. More time to get our life together. We all wish for second chances, unlimited do-overs, and the gift of additional time.

Statistics don’t lie. Neither does Jesus.

We all have a finite amount of time on this earth.

Jesus reminds us of our own fragile mortality, not to terrify us, but to free us.

Realizing how much time we have left is not meant to depress us, but rather to inspire us.

As in, count the number of your days so your days will count.

According to Jesus, the one thing we don’t know is how much time we have left to live.

Which makes it even more important to get busy living while we have life and breath.

Get busy living. Love deeply, do good, make everyone around you better, bless everything and everyone you touch, and walk faithfully with God.

Imagine what we could do if we had more time
