Imagine Part 3 “Compassion Fatigue” Traditional Service Livestream

Here’s a random fact. Did you know that February 17th is designated as Random Acts of Kindness Day?
The Random Acts of Kindness movement started more than 40 years ago by a woman named Anne Herbert who published the first known account of “Practice Random Acts of Kindness and Acts of Senseless Beauty.” After her article appeared, the kindness movement began to spread in surrounding communities.
It’s a wonderful concept. Just do something nice or good for someone else for no other reason than it makes the world a better place. And we all agree, the world needs a lot more kindness these days, random or otherwise.
Examples of random acts of kindness?
Offer to buy coffee for the person behind you in line.
Buy a warm meal for someone in need.
Write a thank you note to someone who has inspired you.
The movement of intentionally doing good for others didn’t start 40 years ago. Jesus lived it, taught it, and embodied it. His life and ministry were committed to caring for the least, the last, and the lost. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, forgave those who thought they were unforgivable, loved those who were convinced they were unlovable, gave hope to those in despair, and led people to God and the promise of new life.
It’s a foreign concept to many. Jesus says, “give your life away in love and service to others and you’ll find it.” Too many people think there’s never enough to go around so they live each day with a clenched fist and a closed heart.
But those of us who believe know what he’s talking about. Try it and you’ll see for yourself. Help, serve, give, be generous, do something for someone else with no expectations of anything in return and no strings attached.
And here’s the little secret Jesus wants you to know. It feels good to bring hope and joy to someone else. It feels good to help someone who needs it. It feels good to know you made someone’s day a little better and made their life a little easier.
It feels good.
Because it is good.
And all good things come from God.
